Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer mental health play therapy? No, we do not offer mental health play therapy, though our services often compliment play therapy nicely. We have wonderful relationships with pediatric mental health colleagues in the Milwaukee area, and we would love to share their information if you’d like. Please email us at hello@littlelightmke.com.
Do you take insurance? We are out-of-network with insurance companies, including Medicaid. Families with commercial insurance may request a superbill after appointments, and they may submit this to their insurance company for potential reimbursement. We do also take Health Savings Account (HSA) cards.
How are payments made?Payments are made at the time of service. Parents typically upload payment information in our patient portal, and our therapists pull the payment within a few hours of the appointment.
Do you offer virtual appointments?Yes, we do offer virtual appointments for clients located in the state of Wisconsin. Virtual appointments are not the right fit for every child, but they can work very well for many children. Typically, sessions that involve parent education and training can work well in a virtual environment. Older children (approximately 6-18 years old) who can attend well at a computer screen, can also do very well in a virtual setting.
Do parents usually sit in on sessions?Parents sit in on sessions approximately 50% of the time. Whether the child’s parent/guardian sits in on the session depends on many factors. We are always open to parents being present if the parent and child prefer. Parents of babies are typically always present. With older children (18 months +), they will often engage more fully in directed therapy activities without their parents present. If this is the case for your child, please know that we will follow up with home program ideas and education/review of session, and you are always welcome to enter the session when you’d like.
Do you allow student observers/shadows?Yes, we do. Mentoring younger therapists and providing shadow opportunities are important to us. Due to our high volume of shadow requests, we permit each student to observe once for a morning or afternoon window (typically between 2 and 5 hours in length) annually. If an observer has more availability and greater interest, please let us know, and we may be open to having the student volunteer with our team, completing tasks such as cleaning toys, wiping surfaces, laminating papers, and managing trash/recycling.
What should my child wear to therapy? If your child is coming to speech therapy, they may wear anything. If they are coming for OT or PT, please have your child dress in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. If they are being seen for a leg concern/injury, please have them wear/bring shorts.
